Teacher: So what kind of riding do you do?
Girl 1: I do hunter/jumpers and some equitation. It's like jumping jumps in a ring and making the horse look good.
Girl 2: I do eventing.
Teacher: What's that?
Girl 2: It's kinda like a horse triathlon: stadium jumping, jumping un-moveable objects in a field, and horse ballet.
Teacher: What about you?
Me: I ride horses saved from slaughter who don't know how to stop or how to act like regular horses.
Everyone (except me): Oh (looking away awkwardly and judging)

Pictures like this confuse me because part of me wants to think ‘aww, cute, little kid, big horse’ but then I feel like it must be so difficult to give correct aids with this kind of size mismatch, those spurs are hitting just beneath the saddle pad.. I don’t know.

Yeah, I mean I don’t mind a kid riding a big horse from time to time I don’t see that as a major issue just this is clearly at a show and I’m not sure how I feel about it, I don’t feel like you need a horse that big when you’re that small :/ Don’t get me wrong my old trainer used to put her 2 year old daughter on her 17.2hh Warmblood and lead her around (while being held on) and that wasn’t a big issue but when it’s serious riding and showing.. Idk ://

you guys see a problem in everything… just for the record, this kid won the 1m class the three days he jumped with Winton (the horse in the picture). I looked for the video of the small kid jumping a big grey warmblood (1,30m I guess) on youtube, but couldn’t find it. I hope y’all know the video! but that is it. BTW we don’t have pony jumpers in my country. so kids ride big horses all the time and do extremely good in the show ring

^^^^ stop trying to feel better about yourself by criticizing everything you can. i bet this kid can jump a hell of a lot better than some of you. give him props, not negative comments.

For future reference. I have read over all of these comments 3 times now, searching in vain for the part when people start hating. The first person to comment stated that she/he thought it would be a challenge to ride a horse given a physical disadvantage on the part of the rider. The following comments affirm indecision. I guess perhaps the bit about the spurs hitting at a somewhat unconventional place could be considered a little bit offensive but come on! Riders often brag about toughness and being strong and independent people but hypersensitivity is highly prevalent in the equestrian world. As it is, I’d be willing to bet that this kid can jump a hell of a lot better than I can considering the tack, height of jumps, and really nice looking horse but that also doesn’t mean that I am less of a rider or am in any ways less qualified to give my opinion. We all enjoy horses. Can that seriously not be enough to keep us all from tearing out each other’s throats?
